Institutional Subscriptions FAQs

Our institution has not yet activated our online access to our APP journal(s) subscriptions, how do I do so?

Please email institutions@psych.org with your institution’s IP addresses and we will activate your institution’s online access to your APP subscriptions. We will email you verification that your subscription(s) has been activated.

How do I update my institution’s IP addresses?

Please email any changes to your institution’s IP addresses to institutions@psych.org. We will update your account and email you verification that your account has been updated.

How do I update the administrator contact information on my account?

Please email any changes to your institution’s administrator contact information or company address to institutions@psych.org. We will update your account and email you verification that your account has been updated.

How do I access my usage statistics (for the new SCM6 platform)?

The new PsychiatryOnline.org website is compliant with the current COUNTER standards (COUNTER 3 for Journals and COUNTER 1 for Books), which will be available on a going-forward basis after migration through the SCM6 institutional administrator interface. You will be able to see your first month’s usage data for the new platform on the new library administrator site as of December 2011.

You can view details of your institution’s usage statistics anytime at http://sitemaster.psychiatryonline.org. Please use your administrator login to access your statistics. If you have forgotten your administrator user name and password, please email institutions@psych.org.

Please note: DSM Premium and DSM-IV-TR Online Only institutional subscribers’ pre-migration usage reports for books will not be integrated into the new platform interface, but they will continue to be accessible through the end of 2011 through the current interface; a link to the location for these legacy stats will be provided later. If you’d like to download book stats before migration, please visit: http://stats.psychiatryonline.com/statistics/.

APP Journal Usage on Highwire prior to migration:

You will be able to continue to access your APP journal usage reports from HighWire until December 31, 2011 at the sites listed below.

If you have any problems accessing your HighWire account and usage reports please contact institutions@psych.org.

Is FOCUS: The Journal of Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry included in the DSM Premium subscription package?

PsychiatryOnline.org  is new domain and platform for all American Psychiatric Publishing (APP) journals and DSM subscription products. Please note that FOCUS: The Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry is an APP journal but is not included in your DSM Premium subscription package. If you are interested in subscribing to this journal, please contact institutions@psych.org for a subscription rate quote.

If your patrons access the DSM Premium subscription through the PsychiatryOnline.org homepage they will see FOCUS listed as a journal. Unless your institution subscribes to the FOCUS as well, patrons will not be able to access the full content of the current year’s issues.

Is CME included in the DSM Premium subscription package?

CME is not included as part of the DSM Premium package. CME is purchase on an individual basis.

PsychiatryOnline.org now offers your patrons a central source for all their online CME needs. They can access the CME activities under the CME & Self-Assessments Tab from the top menu bar. But in order to earn CME they must purchase the CME module.

Can I get a list of all the PsychiatryOnline.org resources and their respective persistent links and ISBN numbers?

Click here to download the PDF.

Does SCM6 work with Athens?

Yes, the Silverchair SCM6 platform supports Athens authentication, and this authentication method is offered for the PsychiatryOnline books and journals. If you would like to add your Athens ID to your account access please email institutions@psych.org with your Athens ID.

What will happen to links to resources in my library systems, such as link resolvers?

We are putting in place “301 redirects” (indicating a permanent move) from the legacy site on HighWire to the new site. Whenever possible, existing links will resolve to their new location. Links that cannot be resolved to the new location will go to the homepage. Click here for a list of key URLs for the new site are offered below; note that URLs for the journals are not changing.

Open URLs and SFX:

PsychiatryOnline’s technology platform—Silverchair’s SCM6—supports two types of OpenURL linking: inbound and outbound.

Inbound OpenURL Linking: PsychiatryOnline supports OpenURL at the journal article and book chapter level. We support the volume/page syntax for articles and the DOI syntax for book chapters as well as articles (for articles that have DOIs). Note that popular link resolvers, such as Ex Libris’s SFX, can be easily embedded into any OpenURL-compliant source, so you should have no problem enabling PsychiatryOnline OpenURL linking with them.

Here’s an example of two ways to link to the same article via inbound OpenURL at PsychiatryOnline:

Base URL: The base URL http://psychiatryonline.org/article.aspx?doi= works for all journal articles that have been assigned DOIs.

The base URL http://psychiatryonline.org/content.aspx?doi= works for all book chapters that have been assigned DOIs.

PsychiatryOnline currently does not offer OpenURL resolution at the publication (via ISSN) or issue level (via ISSN/Volume/Issue). This type of linking is being considered for an upcoming release of the platform. Please let us know if this type of inbound linking would be useful to you.

Outbound OpenURL Linking: PsychiatryOnline also supports outbound OpenURL linking. This feature enables dynamic linking of journal references to OpenURL-based institutional link resolvers and lets your patrons know whether your library provides access to the article or chapter being cited.

To enable outbound OpenURL linking, please provide us with your resolver base URL, link text, and image (image is optional; if provided it will appear in an article/chapter’s References section as the institutional link). You can email this information to us at institutions@psych.org. If you have already registered this information with us, we will be migrating it to the new platform so your outbound linking will remain.

Do I need to ensure that my LOCKSS account is still in place?

LOCKSS is aware of this platform move, and LOCKSS archiving will remain in place for PsychiatryOnline content after migration.

How do I add my institution’s logo to our subscription?

You can now add your organization’s logo to the PsychiatryOnline.org homepage under “Your access is provided courtesy of COMPANY.” Please email institutions@psych.org with your logo in JPG or GIF format with a Max width: 230 px and Max height: 230 px.

Do you have any marketing materials available to help us promote the subscription product(s) to our patrons?

APP offers DSM Premium and DSM-IV-TR Online only subscribers posters, pens, and bookmarkers for their library to distribute to patrons for special events and/or training days. Please send your request for these promotional materials to institutions@psych.org. If there is anything else you need to help promote APP products to your patrons, please feel free to ask.

Where can I learn more about the Silverchair platform?

Please visit the Silverchair website at www.Silverchair.com for more information. Be sure to visit the “Libraries” tab.
